Day 3 - River of God, Cultural Mandate, Brokeness

13 May - Yup that sums up all. Ps. Kong shared on how every great river flows begun from a small streamflow. Similarly, in everything we do for God - a continuous flow of the Holy Spirit in our lives is crucial.

Having the understanding of the Marketplace, Ps. Kong shared in-depth on how God loves culture. If the Body of Christ wants to influence the marketplace - it needs to understand how to impact the popular culture aka "Pop Culture" of today - because of its mainstream nature. (Not the folk culture nor the high culture). Pastor shared on the insight of how William Shakespeare - is actually part of the mainstream culture in his time - further anchoring this point.

Again, the Body of Christ cannot shun away from the world.

To understand and relate to the world does not mean to conform to their standards. It is about relevance.

Night session was about how the church must always stay broken for the Lord. It's not about human wisdom but always having Godly attitudes in all we do, staying open to the leading of the Holy Spirit - even in the midst of busyness.

Taiwanese popstar singer Liu Geng Hong 刘耕宏 was the special guest for today. Since committing to Christ 2 years ago, he has singlehandedly brought 100 over people to church and even reached out to Jay Chou 周杰伦 - his best friend who accepted Christ subsequently. He is also serving as a cell group leader in the church.

When the night session ended, we headed to Shih-lin Night Market for a nice dinner - check out the fried chicken stall behind. Simply delicious! Better than KFC!

Day 2 - For the Marketplace!

12 May - Today we decided to have McDonald's breakfast.

While walking to the nearest McDonald's
we decided to pose in front of the Taiwan Egg Stadium!

Daphne and Grace enjoying their breakfast and a view of the street hawkers selling 小龙包.
5 buns only for SGD 1.50!
The Mac Meals are also a steal - approx SGD 3+!!!

More rehearsals.

Yes! Kirk (Eric's TV ministry friend) needs some warm-up and practice too!

Taiwanese tribual dance! Some of the younger performers are only 16 years old.

Building on Day One's message, Ps. Kong shared on the 7 pillars of the society - Family, Religion, Business, Government, Education, Arts and Media. Out of which the last 5 constitutes the Marketplace.

The churches in Taiwan began to understand how the Body of Christ must no longer shun away from these 5 pillars of the society. They are challenged to raise up and shine for God as salt and light in these social pillars.

Full attendance for Day 2 Morning 10 AM session

Most importantly, they began to see the importance of strong campus ministries - citing the examples of Tony Blair, George Bush, Beyonce, Elvis etc and how their overall belief systems are very much formed since their schooling days.

The challenge is therefore to bring Christ to the campuses of Taiwan - influencing today's students - who are the leaders of the world tomorrow.

Singapore and International popstar JJ Lin 林俊杰 was the special guest for tonight. Everyone was excited to hear him shared his testimony of how he became a Christian at a young age of 11.

When the night session ended, we went Tong Hwa Street for a nice bowl of Yi Mian and a bowl of meat ball soup! We also tried the dessert stall nearby! Nice!

At Tong Hwa Street!

Day 1 - EMERGE Taiwan First Session kicks off!!!

11 July, 7 AM/7:30AM - A humid Wednesday dawns while we arrived at NTU Indoor Stadium - way before the first session 10AM.

Teams sprung into full actions - touching up all that is needed. Ushers, Security, TV, Chorus Board, Sound, Lighting in their respective positions - final checks were done.

The event venue right before the first session!

While all these work were being done, a long queue already begun forming outside the closed doors. This year - over 200 churches in Taiwan have participated in Emerge 2007. This means an expected number of over 5000 people will be swarming into the venue.

As you know, the Taiwanese people always give their best attitude even while queuing! No shoving around, no pushing - just patient waiting and being enthusiastic at the same time.

The first session begun at 10 AM promptly - Ps. Kong led the church to pray up the atmosphere in the midst of singing 'One Life One Love'. Compared to last year, the spiritual atmosphere can be felt tangible even in this first session!

It simply meant that the churches in Taiwan are more hungry for God than ever.

The church listened attentively while Ps Kong opens spiritual eyes to understand how youth Christians must rise up to impact the school campuses for Christ and how we must believe in the power of one. He shared the Word referring to the account of Shamgar in the Bible.

1 PM - The session closed with the church being called to be ever more fervent in prayer and a true dedication of lives to the Lord once again.

This is taken during the Word Power session. (During lunch time)
Just imagine a fully packed stadium before this!

Following a short lunch break - Word Power contest begun! This ended at about 3 PM.

At this current moment, the rehearsals are being held. The audience had to clear the hall and requeue outside closed doors (even in the midst of rain). No complaints no whys. Just like last year, they armed with umbrellas, standing in the queue - all awaiting for today's 1st night session beginning 7PM! Taiwanese hottest band - F.I.R. will be performing in a special segment! Praise God - two of them (Faye 飛 and Real 阿沁) are born-again Christians - shining for the Lord in the entertainment world!

Rehearsals ongoing! Audience has cleared the hall!
In case you are wondering, Parade of Schools is a contest
whereby exciting cheerleading stunts are performed!

No time wasted - Daphne and Grace busy preparing the
bulletin newsletters for tonight's session!

Meanwhile, queues of people formed from all entrances.
You can see that the queues snakes all the way
from level 3 (venue) to ground level along the stairways.
It was raining heavily just before the final session
- a good relief from the summer heat!

The great 5000 over crowd begun to form as the time
inches toward 7 PM.

When the session ended at 11 PM, Eric (while Grace and
Daphne already ate!) went out with
few of his TV frens.
小李子is a popular porridge "buffet" place
with tasty dishes to choose from!

So that's all for Day One! Do stay tuned!

Day 0 - 从樟宜到台北!

10 July, 12:30 PM - We lugged our stuff to gather at the airport for final pre-flight briefing!

Daphne, Grace and our new CHC fren - Jamie!

The mission troopers!

Changi Airport, we'll miss you for these few days....

10 May, 2:10PM - On the way to board, not forgetting some quick snapshots again...

In China Airlines CI-662!

10 May, 7:50PM - Our flight was delayed slightly for 10 mins. In the midst of some air tubulence, we landed safely and smoothly in Taiwan! After grabbing some last minute currency exchange and SIM cards, we boarded this bus to arrive at our hotel - Sunworld Dynasty Hotel Taipei.

After a quick collection of keys, getting to know new roommates (if any) - we got to NTU Indoor Stadium for Bro Jimmy's pre-event briefing. In this briefing, we got to know which teams we would be allocated. Grace and Daphne are in one team that does ushering. Jamie is in another while Eric is in TV ministry.

The briefing ended at approx. 11 PM with prayers for Sun, the event, and ourselves - for good health and rest despite busy schedules ahead, spiritual alertness etc.

Realising that we have not taken our dinner - we embarked on the next cab ride to Shih-lin Nite Market! Let's show you what a delicious steak meal looks like!

Sirloin Steak Meal - NTW 130! (SGD 6.50)
Tastes better than Jack's Place.
Definitely more value for money!
Add NTW 10 for a set that comes complete with
red tea drink, soup and bun bread!

Here's the stall! "First-Grade Steak" ;)
